Nature and sport
The Tortona region is able to offer visitors a wide range of natural views. At the highest altitudes you find woodland full of oaks and beeches, together with fir-trees and junipers in the areas in which the climate became more rigorous.
Plant life and animals of the hilly and mountainous areas contribute to give the region a very peculiar aspect.
Squirrel, dormice, foxes, wild boar, fallow deer and roe deer are more likely to be seen in wooden areas. Plant life is wild and characterised by important concentrations of chestnut and oak in the areas with the highest altitudes.
The ground underneath is characterised by the presence of both mushrooms and truffles, together with sweet-smelling hawthorn, wild blackthorn, heather and juniper.
From February till late Autumn the landscape is dominated by wonderful crops of more than 50 species of wild orchids.
Also the plain area, specifically around the Scrivia river, has its own special environmental charm.
